Job Description:

• Determine acceptability of insurance risk for personal lines policy applications, endorsements, and renewals by analyzing property characteristics and identifying hazards as required to ensure profitable risk selection.
• Assist agents in real time via phone calls, e-mails, etc. Demonstrate a sense of urgency around resolution, to keep the agent informed and follow up in a timely manner.
• Ensure adherence to Personal Lines underwriting standards, objectives, and guidelines by processing policies in a timely and efficient manner to meet department production requirements, state regulatory requirements and agent expectations.
• Advance underwriting mindset and creativity in analyzing risks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Education - Bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent of education and business experience..
• Experience - 5+ years of experience in personal lines underwriting – homeowner’s experience a plus.
• Licenses/Designations - Insurance licenses, CPCU or comparable designations preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Detail oriented and ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines and achieving expected levels of quality and accuracy.
• Technical proficiency in underwriting/rating systems.
• Advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures, as well as knowledge of personal insurance lines of business including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and risks.
• Analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to exercise judgement, negotiate, and make sound decisions effectively.
• Demonstrate technical expertise and product specific knowledge with experience in handling homeowner’s coverage.
• Excellent proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of other Microsoft programs a plus.
• Strong process orientation, excellent interpersonal skills, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment.
• Demonstrate ability to complete complex underwriting assignments.
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands:

• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands; and talk or hear.
• The employee is required to stand; walk safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaced; and reach with hands and arms.
• Must have the ability to handle stressful deadlines.
• Must have sufficient vision to navigate required computer programs.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
