Job Description:

Direct responsibility for assisting the VP of Claims in management and analysis of Homeowner property claims. The Claims Adjuster provides world class customer service to our policyholders by empathetically handling each claim and working to efficiently handle each claim fairly.

Your Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Responsible for personal lines homeowner claims with little to no direction and oversight. Makes decisions within delegated authority and recommends settlement values in the disposition of claims.
  • Direct disposition of claims to third-party partners while recognizing and implementing alternative means of resolution.
  • Reviews and determines proper policy coverages and resolves claims per company guidelines.
  • Opens, closes, and adjusts reserves in accordance with company practices.
  • Maintains current knowledge of insurance and applicable product/services; court decisions which may impact the claims decisions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of local industry repair procedures and local market pricing.
  • Submits reports, reinsurance notifications and other information to claims leadership.
  • Capabilities to identify fraud and recovery opportunities.
  • Delivers a positive customer service experience in all internal and external interactions.
  • May assist with training or presentations as assigned.
  • Handle claims from inception through resolution. Appropriately investigates loss circumstances, accurately applies coverage, and works within assigned authority levels.
  • Engage and monitor the work of outside vendors contributing to the claims adjustment process as needed.
  • Be adept in and use property and casualty expertise and industry knowledge to recommend and implement change when needed.
  • Develop and employ creative resolution strategies.
  • Ensure compliance of all statutory regulations and unfair Claim Practice Acts.
  • Actively provide mentoring and coaching to less experienced claims professionals to increase the technical expertise and improve team strength.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university.
  • 1-3 years of Florida homeowners' property and casualty claims processing experience.
  • 5-20 or 6-20 Florida Adjuster’s license in good standing.
  • Working knowledge with Microsoft Office products required (specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Functional knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, and techniques, to include but not limited to coverage issues, and product line knowledge.
  • Functional knowledge of law and insurance regulations in various jurisdictions.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Effectively communicate through strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Possess proven negotiation skills.
  • Xactimate estimating software experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills to interact with TPA partners, attorneys, and legal partners, as well as our customers.
  • Able to work extended hours due to weather-related events.
