Job Description:

The Litigation Examiner is responsible for daily management of first-party property lawsuits, documenting the files over the course of litigation, discussing legal strategies, analyzing litigation budgets, assisting with settlement negotiations, and conveying pertinent information to management. The role requires regular collaboration with defense counsel and the Vice President of Claims.

Your Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist Case Manager with attorney oversight and file related tasks, as well as providing support to prepare litigation of files.
  • Maintain an active diary of claims and execute legal strategy as directed by Case Manager.
  • Receive claims related lawsuits; evaluate, prioritize, and assign responsibilities to vendors, desk adjusters and/or legal partners.
  • Track and analyze litigation file status.
  • Ensure litigation deadlines are met by closely monitoring litigation files status and providing routine status reports including task completion reports, completion schedules, and pursuit of closing documents.
  • Prepare and send complex correspondence concerning the claims adjustment process as directed by the Case Manager.
  • Collect and compile data; tracking various aspects of the claims adjustment process.
  • Organize claims files by type; handle necessary filing of correspondence and claims files.
  • Assist as needed with imaging documents and other correspondence to ensure claim files have all the detail required for proper handling and resolution.
  • Maintain historical archives related to outside partners to facilitate the expeditious retrieval of information so that claims staff and others within the company may quickly and efficiently accomplish their respective responsibilities.
  • Manages Accounting Department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, training and evaluation of these units.
  • Adjust reserves or provide reserve recommendations to ensure that reserve activities are consistent with company practices and procedures. Issue checks when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university required.
  • Experience - Minimum of five (5) years of experience handling first-party property claims in Florida, Minimum of three (3) years of experience handling first-party property litigated claims in Florida, and working knowledge of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Licenses/Designations - Current Florida Adjuster's License.
  • Travel - Some travel may be required.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands are classified as Light.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is required to stand; walk safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaced; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have the ability to handle stressful deadlines.
  • Must have sufficient vision to navigate required computer programs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
