Job Description:

This senior level underwriting position assists the Executive Staff in setting the underwriting direction of the company. This position is responsible for the acquisition and retention of profitable commercial property habitational risks (condo, apartment, HOA) by evaluating the acceptability utilizing underwriting guidelines and company best practices. This position is required to demonstrate complex decision-making with broad limits of authority to recommend pricing and risk exceptions where appropriate to maximize and meet business plans.

Your Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Support a profitable book of business by accepting or rejecting new, renewal, and endorsement applications in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of class of business and line of business trends, emerging market needs, issues and competition.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agents to understand their needs and provide service that responds to their needs.
  • Contribute to business requirements, user acceptance testing, and special projects.
  • Price risks and place facultative reinsurance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including marketing, product, risk management, executive staff, vendors, reinsurers, and agents.
  • Cross-train with BOP underwriting staff to assist during times of overflow.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have analytical, decision-making and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Travel: must have the ability to travel 20%.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial property lines underwriting – CRP underwriting experience a plus.
  • Professional designation (CPCU, AU, ARM) preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of other Microsoft programs a plus.
  • Must have strong planning, analytical, decision-making and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with other business and functional areas.
  • Solid understanding of business to improve business outcomes.
