Job Description:

As a crucial part of the Management Team, the Assistant Vice President of Risk Management & Reinsurance is responsible for making all decisions on risk management issues that directly impact the strategic direction of the company by performing the following duties.

Your Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Manage all facets of catastrophe risk process.
  • Responsible for catastrophe modeling and statistical analysis.
  • Devise systems and processes to monitor validity of risk modeling outputs.
  • Distribute exposure and capacity of exposure by zone or region.
  • Design proprietary risk measurement tools.
  • Design proprietary profitability and capital allocation measurement tools.
  • Responsible for strategic measurement and maintenance of overall corporate risk.
  • Work with actuarial teams on all state pricing and filings.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop new state pricing initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate corporate reinsurance programs.
  • Responsible for loss mitigation strategy.
  • Create presentations
  • Provide input and joint leadership for reinsurance negotiations.
  • Responsible for authorizations.
  • Manage loss reporting and bordereaux reports.
  • Manage and provide support for allocations to lines, states, and regions.
  • Responsible for schedule F quarterly and annual statement.
  • Set, review, and manage corporate wide enterprise risk management.
  • Manage communications relating to risk management and pricing with Board of Directors, Rating Agencies, and Regulatory Authorities.
  • Manage and coordinate audits and consulting actuaries including pricing and reserving.
  • Some travel required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) preferably in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.
  • Experience - Minimum of six to eight years of property/casualty experience.
  • Licenses/Designations - Associateship (ACAS) in the Casualty Actuarial Society preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of data sources, tools, statistical principles and methodologies, and techniques and applications to conduct research.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to communicate and present technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent proficiency in Excel (VBA, macros, scripts, formulas, data visualization, etc.) and Access. Knowledge of other Microsoft programs a plus.
  • Ability to analyze data and review moderately complex analyses from others.
  • Must have strong planning, analytical, decision-making and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of business to improve business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with other business and functional areas.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands are classified as Light.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is required to stand; walk safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaced; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have the ability to handle stressful deadlines.
  • Must have sufficient vision to navigate required computer programs.
